Redevelopment Authority hears updates on blighted properties
The City of Warren’s Redevelopment Authority heard updates on two properties deemed blighted during its Thursday meeting.
Director of Codes and Planning Randy Rossey told the RDA that electric, gas and water have been restored to the property at 1024 Spring St.
The owner “does have some structural issues he’ll need to address on the back of the property.”
The owner, John Nash, told the RDA that he’s working on digging out the back hill to place a retaining wall and also submitted for a building permit to fix the foundation issues.
Scott Taylor, the city’s zoning and ordinance enforcement official confirmed that and said the permit is “moving along in the process.”
The RDA gave the owner until June to take care of that work and report back.
The RDA took a similar action against 820 Carbon Place.
The owner, John Arndt, told the RDA that he hasn’t turned his back on the property and said he would be returning to Warren to do work once the weather improves.
“It is what it is. I can only do what I can possibly do,” he said. “(It’s) hard to get up there and do your thing.”
RDA member Michael Boyd asked when Arndt thinks he may have heat restored to the structure and sufficient work completed to obtain a certificate of occupancy permit.
“That’s more than I had considered so far,” Arndt said. “I don’t have that much money behind me right now.”
