Meth buys land Corry man in state prison

A Corry man will spend at least a year in state prison for his role in two methamphetamine controlled buys.

Joey L. Bunce, 29, was sentenced by President Judge Maureen Skerda on Friday.

His attorney, Assistant Public Defender Francis Waweru, said that things “have gone downhill” for Bunce over the last year but credited his client for being “100 percent open discussing it with me.”

“Mr. Bunce sold methamphetamine three separate times to an undercover informant,” First Assistant District Attorney Cody Brown explained.

He said that methamphetamine is “plaguing our community.”

Bunch asked for house arrest so he can continue to work but Skerda rejected that notion.

Skerda pointed out that methamphetamine has “been a terrible problem” for both Bunce and the community.

“This wasn’t a one-time incident,” she added, noting that the buys – which occurred in March and April – are “pretty recent in time.”

He was sentenced to 12 to 24 months incarceration in state prison with credit for two days time served, one year probation, $500 in restitution to the Warren County Drug Task Force, $2,275 in fines and fees, submission of a DNA sample and priority for drug and alcohol treatment in the state prison system on a count of possession with intent to deliver.

He was also sentenced to 4.5 months to two years less one day and one year probation on a count of criminal use of a communications facility.
