Warren kindergartners grateful for Free Books

To show gratitude for their books, Mrs. Taylor’s kindergarteners at Warren Area Elementary Center give a group hug to Free Books for Kids Town Founder and Director Ruby Wiles.

During the last week of school at Warren Area Elementary Center, Pam Taylor’s kindergarten class thanked Free Books for Kids Town Founder Ruby Wiles for the books they received this past year at Christmastime and the end of the school year.

“We love books in my kindergarten,” Taylor declared. “There was so much joy and happiness that there had to be a group hug. Mrs. Wiles almost got knocked over by their happiness!”

Free Books for Kids Town is a Warren nonprofit whose mission is children’s literacy and education. Its goals are to provide books that match children’s interests and to spark their love of learning.

“I love the thank you letters that many of the children write after receiving their books,” said Wiles, “but nothing beats a group hug!”

Wiles explained that, “Read to Keep, our signature program, is primarily in schools, where more than two-thirds of our local children have no money for books.” She says the first question she and her volunteers normally hear when children receive their books is, “You mean I get to keep this book – that it’s mine?” The second question is, “Can I have another?”

As director of Free Books, Wiles is working hard to raise the funds to be able to provide books for all kindergarten through eighth grade students in Warren County during the next school year.
