Community rallying around Red Kettle Campaign
The last week of the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is underway.
And the community has come together in some neat ways to support the effort, which raises funds that allows the Salvation Army to serve people in need in our community.
Blair Smoulder told the Times Observer that the Warren High School Class of 1960 decided at its Christmas luncheon to donate remaining proceeds of their account to the effort.
A group of Gary’s rang bells on Friday Shurfine.
That’s exactly what it sounds – a group of people named Gary.
Those that have participated in that effort include Gary Lester, Gary Kell, Gary Sawtelle, Gary Candreia, Gary Finger and Gary Landrio as well as Gary Olson, Gary Hannold, Gary Wallin and Gary Barnes.
Saturday was also a big day for the campaign for a couple reasons.
Salvation Army Territorial Commander Bill Bamford III agreed to match what could be raised in cash on Dec. 16. A total of $3,800 was raised that will now be doubled.
That effort was certainly augmented by the Battle of the Bells: Four service clubs – Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary, Zonta – battling each other to raise the most money at Walmart on Saturday.
