Commissioners hear tech proposals to expand public access

The Warren County Commissioners heard proposals during Monday’s work session that would expand information to the public.

The first is a software upgrade for the Register & Recorder’s office that, among other functions, manages the county’s deeds and land records.

Register & Recorder Lisa Berkhouse said the Landex system she is recommending is already used by over half of counties in the state.

She said it comes recommended by those counties as well as by the county’s abstractors, who will be able to do deed work remotely in the county for the first time.

Berkhouse said the change would result in a “great reduction in foot traffic” and reduce the number of cases where a document is rejected.

She said that the company will also facilitate making land records dating to the late 1800s publicly available online, rather than just 1985 and forward.

The commissioners also discussed a proposal to make the county’s website fully American with Disabilities Act-compliant.

“Currently, it’s not 100 percent compliant,” Chief Clerk Pam Matve said. “They know what they’re doing (and) can make sure our site is compliant.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
