Historical scavenger hunt now open

The Warren County Historical Society has put together an Allegheny National Forest-specific scavenger hunt for this summer.

This year’s Trail of History Challenge highlights the centennial of the ANF.

Event Coordinator Laura McDonald said the challenge will run between Memorial Day and Labor Day and include “new locations, clues and fun as we celebrate our partnership with the Allegheny National Forest for its 100th anniversary.”

The idea is pretty simple – clues will get you to the location somewhere in the county and there will be a question to answer about the site once you arrive.

“This family-friendly, summer-long event will open your eyes to the enchantment that surrounds,” McDonald said. “Follow the clues at your own pace to a variety of locations throughout Warren County, chosen specifically for their historic impact, and for your chance to win a Warren County-themed prize basket.”

Registration is $10 and includes a mug, decal, clue packet and instructions and can be acquired at the Society’s Fourth Ave. office.

Completed answer sheets must be returned by Friday, Sept. 8, at 4 p.m. to be eligible for the prize basket.

“From the rolling hills and rippling waterways to the notable structures and historic tales, Warren County history ranges from rich local folklore to important worldwide significance,” McDonald explained. “Warren County is beautiful! You are invited to bask in its splendor as you take part in the Trail of History Challenge.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
