Registration dates set for playground program
Registration for the city’s Summer Playground Program will start next week.
City staff have scheduled three registration sessions in city parks and the first one is set for Tuesday where staff will be at Crescent Park from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Beaty Park from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The Summer Playground Program provides supervised play for kids throughout the summer. It’s a free program open to kids aged 7 to 13 and will be offered at three parks — Beaty, Crescent and Lacy.
Additional registration periods are set for May 23 at Lacy Park from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Crescent Park from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. as well as May 25 at Beaty from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Lacy from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The program will run from June 19 to August 11 each weekday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the exception of Tuesday, July 4 when the program won’t be offered.
It had been restricted to two parks because of a lack of staffing but the staff are in place for three parks.
Kassie Damcott, who is overseeing the program this year, said that they’re trying to “get back into the pre-COVID” model when there were more trips and programming offered as part of the program.
She explained that programs are in the works with the Library, Garden Club, Department of Health, Paws Along The River, Penn State Extension, Conservation District and the Audubon as well as a possible trip to the Warren County Fair.
There are also CAR Pool and craft days.
It’s a free program with the exception of the CAR Pool days where kids will need to bring $2 for the pool and $.25 for the TAWC bus to get there and potentially for the county fair.
“(We have) tried not to have any cost to the kids,” Damcott said.
She said she’s been getting donations of game and puzzles and said the city is accepting yard games, puzzles and craft supplies for the program. Monetary donations are also an option.
Damcott said “day of” signups will be accepted but she asked people to sign up prior.
Kids will be required to attend the specific park that they select at sign up.
