School board, commissioners to highlight primary ballot
The “2schools1fight” effort against high school consolidation has shaped this spring’s municipal primary ballot.
The window to file nominating petitions has closed so the ballot for this year’s municipal primary has come into focus.
Candidates for Warren County School District board can cross-file – seek both the Republican and Democratic nominations.
There’s competition up and down the ballot when looking at the Warren County School District Board of Directors.
One seat is open in Region 1, essentially comprised of the City of Warren. John Wortman has cross-filed while Bill Eaker is seeking the Democratic nod and Bridget Schwab is running as a Republican only.
In Region II, which includes Sheffield, there are a total of three seats open – two four-year terms and one two-year term.
For the four year terms each candidate has cross-filed – Donna Zariczny and Joe Colosimo, both incumbents, along with Tammi Holden and Stephanie Snell, according to a candidate list on the county website.
The two year term has seen Zariczny, Colosimo and Savanna Cochran all cross-file.
There are also two four-year seats up for grabs in Region III, which includes Youngsville.
Incumbent Kevin Lindvay, Daniel Sullivan and Kristopher Hodak have all cross-filed while Wendy Maqueen is seeking the Republican nomination.
Warren County voters, at least on the Republican side, will also see a litany of names in the race for county commissioner.
Just one of three incumbent commissioners is seeking re-election – Republican Tricia Durbin.
She’ll be joined on the Republican primary ballot by five other hopefuls – Ken Klakamp, Troy Clawson, Joseph Perrin, Jeff Eschborn and Will Champlin. Dan Glotz is the sole candidate on the Democratic side.
There are no Democratic candidates seeking election as treasurer, register & recorder or sheriff, though two of those three posts will be contested on the Republican side.
Jolean Ishman and Lisa Barr will face off for the nomination for treasurer while Scott Neiswonger and Ken Hinton are both seeking the Republican nod for sheriff. Current Register & Recorder Lisa Burkhouse is unopposed.
Three four-year seats are open on Warren City Council and there are only three candidates across both parties – incumbents Phil Gilbert (D) and Danielle Flasher (R) as well as Republican John Barbera. Maurice Cashman is the sole candidate on both sides of the ballot for a two-year seat.
The primary election date is set for May 16.
