Small fire extinguished in Mansion House building

Times Observer photo by Brian Ferry The Mansion House, at 215 Fourth Ave., Warren, was built in 1833. City of Warren Fire Department responded to and extinguished a small fire at the apartment building Monday night.

There was a small fire at a historic downtown Warren building Monday night.

The City of Warren Fire Department responded to 215 Fourth Ave. — the Mansion House — at 6:10 p.m., with two engines, the tower, and an ambulance.

There was neither smoke nor fire showing outside when firefighters arrived.

“The officer began his investigation by entering the front door where an occupant in the hallway indicated to him which apartment the fire was in,” Chief Dave Krogler said. “The officer entered the apartment to find smoke conditions building and fire coming from an area of a bedside table in the bedroom.”

Firefighters put out the fire with a fire extinguisher and “ventilation fans were used to remove smoke from the structure,” Krogler said.

The response only lasted about an hour and the occupants were allowed to return to their apartments if they so chose. The Red Cross offered other arrangements, Krogler said.

The cause of the fire was not determined.
