Respected responder

Procession carries long-time Scandia chief to resting place after Monday funeral

Kelly Ferrie

A long-time leader in the county’s fire service was recognized by his colleagues one last time on Monday.

Kelly Ferrie, a charter member of the Scandia VFD and chief for over two decades, was escorted to his final resting place by the county’s first responders on Monday.

He passed away last week at the age of 76.

The procession, which started at the Peterson Blick Funeral Home on the east side and traveled north out of the city, was led by a fire truck carrying his casket.

In addition to the volunteer agencies that were part of the procession, the City of Warren Fire Department showed its respect by mounting a flag to the end of its ladder truck and hanging it over the procession route.

He graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1964 and served in the United State Army for two years before a career at Segel & Sons.

He was an elected supervisor in Elk Township.

From a fire perspective, he also served as a Fire School Instructor and coordinator of the Warren County Hazmat Team.
