Those looking for a handy source of information coming out of Warren County School District can have one in the palm of their hand.

The district’s new app can be downloaded by searching for Warren Co SD. The apptegy app handles a variety of information and can be individualized.

“It’s a free app,” District Coordinator of Technology Jen Dilks said. “Anybody can download it.”

“We want to get as many people on this app as possible,” Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Eric Mineweaser said. “It’s a tool for us to be able to communicate quickly and efficiently with everyone. This is the backside of our communications with our students, our parents, and our community.”

The district uses the app to create and send text messages, voice messages, emails, alerts to Facebook and the wcsdpa.org website, and app notifications.

Weather delays, school and after-school activity cancellations, and other events can be announced through the app. “In an emergency, we’re going to get right on this, and we can get these messages out immediately,” Mineweaser said. “If you have your phone near you, you’ll get it right away.”

Call blasts and text blasts can be sent to any phone registered in the district as associated with a school.

Facebook, website, and email alerts might take longer for the recipient to find.

“If parents have the app, it’s going to pop up on their phone,” Mineweaser said.

Once the app is downloaded, it simply has to be enabled for notifications.

The app allows users to configure it to their needs.

“Once you get into the app, you can subscribe to individual buildings,” Dilks said.

The app even has the ability to deliver messages in other languages. “We have students for whom English is a second language,” Dilks said. “Their home language may be different.”

As of Wednesday, 946 users had downloaded the app to an Apple device and another 321 to an Android device, Dilks said.

Dilks and Mineweaser prepared a notification regarding parent-teacher conferences, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7. The notification was set to be distributed at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Starting at $3.50/week.
