Three community nonprofits have received a financial boost as a result of the Young Mothers’ Study Club 57th annual charity auction.
Checks were presented to CORE, a suicide prevention effort; A Safe Place, which cares for domestic violence victims and Caring for Life, which provides emotional and financial support for families with seriously ill children.
Thousands of dollars were raised as a result of the auction, held at Bent Run Brewing Company on Aug. 2.
Lauren Keddie, president of the Club, said that the group brainstorms a list of possible beneficiaries and then votes to select the charities that will be recognized.
This marks the second year that the event has been held at Bent Run in the wake of a cancellation in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Keddie said the second year showed growth and a better turnout, citing the outside environment and live music as boosts for the event.
Having school-aged children is a requirement to join the social organization, which is limited to 30 members. Keddie said there are currently a few openings.
She stressed that the goal of the group is to raise funds for local charities. Outside of the auction event, she said cash and gift card donations can be accepted to boost the effort.
Keddie said anyone interested in the group should visit their Facebook page, @youngmothersstudyclub.
