Dispatcher recognized for life-saving care

A 911 telecommunicator has been formally recognized by the county commissioners for his role in potentially saving a man’s life.

The commissioners presented Zachary Raines with a citation of excellence during Wednesday’s meeting.

Public Safety Director Ken McCorrison explained the situation underpinning the recognition: Raines was the dispatcher on a medical call to Cougar Bob’s in Forest County that was a life-threatening emergency.

McCorrison said he received feedback from the responders on the scene that Raines was “able to give life-saving advice” to the caller who was an EMT. Those responders highlighted how Raines was able to keep the caller calm and talk her through providing needed care.

He added that the responders felt that the patient would have died without that support.

“We always want to celebrate employees that go above and beyond,” Commissioner Tricia Durbin said. “This is wonderful.”

The remainder of the commissioner’s agenda was light — approval of a couple repository tax bids and several proclamations, along with zoning changes being the only items on the agenda.

The commissioners did learn that the county’s cash flow situation has improved.

Lisa Hagberg, director of finance and administration, told the commissioners that tax revenues are “beginning to roll in” and that her department is “hardcore working on the budget.”

County budget hearings are scheduled for the last week of September.
