The Scandia community will be coming together for a picnic this evening.

The Elk Township Historical Society is holding its annual community picnic at 6 p.m. today at the pavilion behind the former Scandia School.

Don Hanna highlighted that the event is “fun and free.”

“We will have hot dogs, snacks and s’mores,” he said. “All you might want to bring is your lawn chair. The popular penny sawdust pile will return for the youngsters, as well as yard games and the playground.”

“We encourage families to attend to catch up with neighbors and meet new friends,” Sharon Johnson, vice president of the Society, said.

Hanna outlined more of what will be involved.

“The little ones can ‘touch a tractor’ — bring your camera for the photo opportunity while they sit on the seat,” he said. “You can pet Ruby, the spotted miniature donkey and see other farm animals who live in the neighborhood.”
