Commissioners wrap up town hall sessions

Times Observer photo by Josh Cotton Commissioner Ben Kafferlin talked to constituents during a town hall meeting held Thursday at the Lion’s Den in Sheffield.

Thursday marked the last in a series of town hall meetings the Warren County Commissioners have held in recent weeks.

The commissioners met with citizens from Sheffield for a little over an hour at the Lion’s Den.

Sessions have been held throughout the county. One is typically held in or around the City of Warren along with meetings in each corner of the county.

“(We) wanted to come to small towns and hear what’s going on,” Commissioner Ben Kafferlin said. “We are happy to hear about your concerns. There might be times we are able to help.

Major county projects were outlined and Kafferlin briefly discussed the role of county government and its focus on public safety and criminal justice.

Concerns were raised about blight properties, how to improve the appearance of the community as well as engagement with township officials.

Kafferlin encouraged those concerned about the community to get involved at a grassroots level.

He said the county would be willing to assist with grant writing to fund projects but told them that “you need the vision” and to identify the “spark” to move ahead.

“You folks seem motivated,” he added.

Starting at $3.50/week.
