City action items coming into focus in planning process
City officials continue to work through the comprehensive plan process.
That took the form of a public meeting Tuesday night at the Allegheny Community Center.
Between 10 and 15 members of the public participated in ranking possible action items that had been identified throughout the planning process to this point.
Brandi Rosselli with Mackin Engineering, the consultant working through the process, said the city has “limited resources” so the focus of the plan is to identify the “most important” issues the city faces and develop action items for how to address those issues.
She said the end result would not be a “laundry list” of projects but rather a roadmap for the future.
Four major areas were presented for review Wednesday — targeted areas for redevelopment, business development, the downtown and assets (such as the riverfront).
Denny Puko, another of the consultants on the project, detailed some of the areas that have been highlighted for improvement up to this point ranging from a need for the city to provide easier access to information for those who want to redevelop a property or start a business to the need to “find ways to attract people” as the business community told them there aren’t enough people here to employ and shop at establishments.
Consultants also sought feedback on zoning issues as well as parking.
“We heard a lot about parking,” Rosselli said.
Those who wish to participate but couldn’t attend the meeting can rank their priorities via survey at surveymonkey.com/r/warrenactionitems.
Rosselli said next steps will include the consultants drafting the plan, stressing that there will be another public hearing before the plan is ultimately adopted.
