Tidioute Community Charter School wins bowl games

Tidioute Community Charter School won its bowl games this month.

On Feb. 2, the team from TCCS — Natalie Valentine, Connor Carnahan, Ayden Bailor, and Lynsey Arthur — edged West Valley 49-to-48 and ran away from Silver Springs by a score of 60-to-43 in the High School Bowl at Jamestown Community College.

“This was truly a team effort,” Coach Michael Patterson said. “We would not have won if we did not have a complete team.”

With 40 points on the night, Carnahan was named Player of the Game for both matches.

Team Captain Valentine added 20 points, while Bailor had 15 and Arthur 10.

“I am extremely proud of how well they are doing,” Patterson said. “When you come from a school as small as ours, it feels good to win, and to have these students recognized for their talents.”

The team started strong in both matchups, getting out to a 21-to-10 lead in the first and 25-to-10 in the second. “The other teams simply couldn’t close the gap after dominating starts by TCCS,” Patterson said.

“We are so proud of these kids,” TCCS Administrator Ryan Guerra said. “They deserved a win for all of their hard work and I’m glad they were able to accomplish that.”

With the wins, TCCS is now 2-and-1 for the tournament and will face either Warren or Cassadaga Valley on Wednesday, March 9.

“You can listen to all of the matches on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m., on WJTN-1240 AM or Sunday, Feb. 12 at 7 a.m. on WWSE 93.3 FM,” Patterson said. “According to Media One Group, LLC, High School Bowl is an academic competition involving schools from Southwestern New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania. It is the longest running academic competition of its type anywhere in the United States…starting in 1962.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
