Wortman, Republicans win mayor, council races

Dave Wortman has been elected the next mayor of the City of Warren.

In fact, Republicans swept the mayoral race and a total of four seats on Warren City Council during Tuesday’s Municipal Election, according to unofficial election results posted at warrencountypa.gov.

Wortman carried the race for mayor 1,262 to 637 over current Councilman Phil Gilbert.

Three full, four year terms were up on city council and those were secured by Wendy McCain (1,179 votes), Jared Villella (1,113 votes) and Joe Michaels (1,117 votes), the three Republican candidates.

Coming up short were the two Democrats on the ticket – current Councilman Douglas Hearn with 807 votes and Kimberly Exley, appointed to fill a vacancy on council through the end of 2021, who received 693 votes.

Mayor Maurice Cashman won election for a two-year term over Aaron Stearns but by a much closer margin – 930 to 870.

In the sole contested race at the county level, Lisa Berkhouse easily secured the post of Register & Recorder over Kristy Phillips, winning by over 3,000 votes – 5,704 to 2,312.

A write-in campaign for a Region II seat on the Warren County School District board appears to have fallen short. Chloe Shaffer received 1,439 votes on the ballot while county data reports just 758 unresolved write-in votes.
