School district ‘officially ready for snow’

The Warren County School District is ready for a white winter.

The district had some trouble finding contractors to provide plowing services for its schools. The previous contractor — which had provided services for the entire district since 2017 — could not find enough employees to continue that service and did not renew the contract.

The district went out for bids, more than once.

Initially, there were no bids.

After another round, there were bids on the Sheffield campus, Youngsville middle/high school and elementary school, and the district’s Operations Center in Sugar Grove, according to Operations Manager David Undercoffer.

Another round of bidding brought in a bid for Beaty-Warren Middle School.

“This leaves us with Eisenhower Middle High School and the parking areas at the Warren Campus as additional areas for the grounds department to cover,” Undercoffer said. “Grounds has been performing the plowing and salting on the roadways at the Warren campus and the parking lot at Central Office.”

On Monday, the board approved a new grounds position and the purchase of a truck.

“This plan should allow us to effectively cover all the snow plowing,” Undercoffer said.

“We’re now officially ready for snow,” Superintendent Amy Stewart said.
