Sugar Grove man pleads guilty to possession
A Sugar Grove man pleaded guilty to drug charges stemming from a traffic stop that turned up cocaine and marijuana.
Michael W. Ott, 22, Sugar Grove, entered the plea to possession with intent to deliver and criminal use of a communications facility while charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia were not prosecuted.
Warren County Drug Task Force detectives were in a marked patrol car at the intersection of Jackson Run and Creamery roads back in March when a red sedan passed their position on Jackson Run Road “at an extremely high rate of speed,” determined to be 68 miles per hour.
Detectives identified Ott via PennDOT database photographs and “observed the silhouette of a boxy item in his front sweatshirt pocket and it appeared his left pocket was full of unknown items.”
Detectives then “observed the torn corner of a clear plastic baggie protruding from the same left pocket,” which police say is a common way to transport and sell illegal drugs.
“During questioning he stated he sells the substance as cocaine” the affidavit states. “During the initial contact with Ott, he appeared to be extremely nervous and almost statue-like making very little eye contact during simple conversation.”
Judge Gregory Hammond, who accepted the plea, said Ott was found in possession of 9.5 grams of cocaine, 17.77 grams of marijua and a digital scale.
Hammond also accepted the following pleas:
¯ Tiffani S. Czech, 42, Columbus, to operating a vehicle without required financial responsibility and failure to drive at safe speed. Four counts of DUI, fail to keep right, fail to yield right and careless driving were not prosecuted. Hammond then sentenced Czech to fines totaling $415 and restitution totaling $5,900.
¯ David L. Eichenlaub, 44, Ambridge, Pa., to DUI, possession of marijuana and driver required to be licensed while charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and period for requiring lighted lamps were not prosecuted.
¯ Brian D. Fox, 45, Clarendon, to DUI: combination alcohol/drugs — fourth offense, possession of marijuana and general lighting requirements while charges of DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia were not prosecuted.
