First session set for comprehensive plan process

The first in a series of meetings is set as part of the city’s comprehensive plan process.

The plan establishes guides for land use that will impact public and private development. It will involve people from the public and private sectors. The end result will be highlighted by a series of project recommendations that identify potential funding streams and responsible parties.

Vince DeJoy, the city’s planner, told the Planning Commission on Wednesday morning that the first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 29.

That meeting — 5:30 p.m. that night at the Conewango Club — is not open to the public.

DeJoy said the invite list includes about 45 people including business leaders, community stakeholders, board and commission members from the city and representation from the Warren County School District, WCCBI and Warren County Visitor Bureau, among others.

They’re calling that initial session a “summit.”

“That will be basically the kickoff to identify priorities the community wants us to focus on for our comprehensive plan,” DeJoy explained.

He said a public session will follow within a month, but that a date and time hasn’t been settled.

“(I) think we really need to be open to the public,” Angie Dart, the commission’s chairman, said. “We really want everyone’s input,” not just people that live in the city.

Starting at $4.00/week.
