Dedication: Sugar Grove AMVETS wins ‘most patriotic’

For the 16th year in a row, AMVETS Post 50 of Sugar Grove was awarded Most Patriotic Post.
Members of Post 50 recently attended the AMVETS Department of Pennsylvania 76th annual convention in Reading.
The event was a successful one for the local post.
“AMVETS Post 50 has received ‘The Most Patriotic Post Award’ due to the hard work and dedication of its members supporting Veterans, Children and Community,” according to a release from Judy Fry. “Paul Shipley, Pennsylvania AMVETS Department Commander presented the Post Award to AMVETS Past National Commander Gary Fry.”
Sheffield High School student Brady O’Donnell, son of Jamie and Amy O’Donnell, earned first place in the tenth-grade division of the Pennsylvania Department’s Americanism essay contest. The theme was “What do I see when I see the American flag?”

O’Donnell also won second place in the AMVETS Against Drugs and Alcohol Program essay contest for his piece — Stop Abuse — Don’t Use.
Eisenhower Elementary School students at four grade levels brought home awards from the convention.
Peyton Massa earned second place in the fifth-grade division of the AMVETS Americanism Program in Reading.
Harper Alm, son of Ericka Alm, won second place in the kindergarten division.
Cecilia Wallace, daughter of Eric and Susan Wallace, won third place in the first-grade division.
Cameron Groves, son of Emily Anderson, won third place in the second-grade division.
