A man fishing on the Allegheny River was rescued Sunday after his kayak overturned.
A water rescue crew from Glade Volunteer Fire Department picked up the man just east of Betts Park.
The call went out at about 6:30 p.m. in the area of Driftwood Drive in Pleasant Township.
According to officials, the man drifted into a strainer — a downed tree over the water — knocking him off the kayak.
The fisherman was wearing a life vest. He was able to climb onto the strainer and wait for help, according to rescuers.
The crew brought the man and his kayak safely back to the boat launch shortly after 7 p.m.
The rescued man said his life vest saved his life and urged others to wear theirs.
Glade rescue personnel also urged those who are recreating on the river and other waterways to wear personal flotation devices.
