Braddock’s Defeat

Heart’s Content hosts French & Indian War reenactment Saturday

A reenactment of Braddock’s defeat in 1755 will be part of a French & Indian War reenactment planned for May 11 and May 12 at Hearts Content.

This weekend marks the first reenactment event held at Hearts Content Recreation Area.

The encampment will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 12.

Admission and parking to the event are free.

Hearts Content is located southwest of Warren in Watson Township.

The reenactors will be portraying Braddock’s 1755 defeat outside of what is now Pittsburgh. The Braddock expedition, also called Braddock’s campaign or, more commonly, Braddock’s Defeat, was a failed British military expedition which attempted to capture the French Fort Duquesne in the summer of 1755 during the French and Indian War.

Hearts Content is considered an ideal location because the battle took place in an old growth forest, according to Jim Brown with the French Creek Living History Association.
