Hello Spring!

A historical perspective for the first day of Spring

Ah, spring.

Birds chirping.

Little creatures running around.

No more snow.

Wednesday was the first day of spring, officially. Sunshine and weather in the 50s welcomed the changing of the seasons.

Sometimes March goes out of Warren County like a lamb. Sometimes, not so much.

According to the Warren County Historical Society, 1936 was an excellent counter-example.

Piles of snow can be seen in a first-day-of-spring photo of Warren’s south side from that year.

“More snow fell on St. Patrick’s Day that year than had fallen all winter,” according to historical society information. “The thaw which followed created a flood of major proportions.”

Another photo from March 22, 1936, shows a train stopped on Fourth Avenue in front of the Warren County Courthouse being loaded with snow, just to get it out of the city.

Starting at $3.50/week.
