LIBRARY-ANGEL

PROGRAM BEGINS

Become a Library-Angel and help the Youngsville Public Library.

Through Friday, Dec. 23, the Youngsville Public Library has a special tree on display near the Circulation Desk. Usually the Library Angel Tree is filled with a variety of ornaments listing basic items and their costs/donation denomination that are vital to the survival of the library, everything from custodial supply items to energy-saving lightbulbs to office supplies, acid-free historical collection materials and more (just to name a few). But in an effort to continue to comply with safety protocols, the procedures for the Library-Angel Fundraiser are going to be the same as last year.

“Prior to 2020, the Library Angel tree was filled with library-needs ornaments and patrons would peruse the tree to find ornaments/items that they wish to sponsor, but due to COVID related contact guidelines that libraries have to follow from the OCL department, we aren’t supposed to have patrons hand pick ornaments from the tree. However, we will have a list of what ornaments and needs and their associated denominations-that were usually on the tree- for patrons to view at the circulation desk. Basically, it’ll be the same fundraiser but just one less step for the patrons,” said Kristy Wallace, library director. “We also have a link on the homepage of our website that will have a Library-Angel form to complete and mail to the library for patrons who want to participate in the Library-Angel program from home. Details about the program and the current list of Library-Angels can all be found at YoungsvilleLibrary.org on the homepage.”

Those interested can also call the library at 814-563-7670 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesday, Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Community members are encouraged to look at the ornament list and donate at the circulation desk. Then a Library Angel ornament will be placed back on the tree for each donation denomination that is made. There is also an option to donate in honor of someone or in memoriam. Names of Angel Tree donors (as well as names of those being honored or donations made in memoriam) will be listed on the Youngsville Public Library’s website and the Youngsville area community news page.

“This annual fundraising event was actually started by the Friends of the Youngsville Library in 2009 in response to the first wave of cuts in state support,” Wallace said, “and the Library Angel Tree has become yet another way for our library to try to counteract a portion of the over $10,000 loss in income that we have been experiencing on a yearly basis since 2009. We can’t express enough how truly grateful we are to every one of our ‘Angels’ who support us every year and who continue to patronize our wonderful library.”
