Photo submitted to Times Observer Free Medicare Open Enrollment Help at Youngsville Public Library — Elaine Krill, from Experience, Inc. (aka Area Agency on Aging) provides free, one-on-one sessions to local residents who need assistance with Medicare’s Open Enrollment options and plan comparisons. This is the fourth year that the Youngsville Public Library has partnered with Experience, Inc. to provide a local site for this individualized service. Elaine will be at Youngsville Library Tuesday, Oct. 30, from noon to 4 p.m., and Monday, Nov. 5, from noon to 4 p.m. Pre-registration is necessary and session availability is limited, so be sure to reserve a time slot at Youngsville Library. If you are directed to voice mail, leave your name, phone number, and mention you want to meet at the Youngsville Library so that Elain can get in touch with you. A third Youngsville session might be scheduled if needed. You will need to bring the following items with you to your appointment: (1) your Medicare card, (2) a list of your prescription drugs, (3) dosage(s) for each drug, and (4) how often each drug is taken. “Trunk or Treat” for kids

A free “Trunk or Treat” Event at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church (179 Davis Street) will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. Join in this night of fun for the whole family.

Indoor Trick or Treating with candy, games, and prizes. Serving hot dogs, chili, popcorn, and lots of cookies. Visit www.YBFree.org for details.

YHS Homecoming Night

Youngsville High School will be kicking off Homecoming events on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. Events include a parade, bonfire, and queen crowning festivities. Call 563-7573 with questions.

Canoe/Kayak Poker Run

The Youngsville Rec Committee’s 8th Annual Canoe/Kayak Poker Run, which was rescheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 20, has been canceled due to inclement weather concerns and lack of pre-registrations for this event. Pre-registration fees will be refunded. Call (814) 563-4604 with questions.

Fall Banquet

The Democrats of Warren County will have their Annual Fall Banquet at the Youngsville Fire Hall on Saturday, Oct. 20. Tickets are $25. At 5 p.m., there is a Meet & Greet Social Hour; 5:30 p.m., dinner; 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., introduction of guests and featured speakers.

The new county chair, Aaron Steans, will be in attendance. There will also be updates on fall election activities and attendees will be given ways to volunteer for the fall election.

Gingerbread House Contest

There will be a Gingerbread House Walk during Youngsville’s Old-Fashioned Christmas Event on December 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. in downtown Youngsville.

The gingerbread houses will be judged prior to the Old-Fashioned Christmas Walk and will be on display during the Christmas Walk.

There are four entry groups: (1) ages 6-12, (2) ages 13-18, (3) Adults, and (4) Family.

The Family group was created for putting your skills together with family or friends.

Prizes and ribbons will be awarded for each group. First place for each group is $50, second place for each group is $25, and third for each group receives a ribbon.

Rules: The gingerbread houses can be any size (decorated yards around the house are encouraged). Everything must be edible. Houses must be dropped off Friday, Nov. 30, between 5 to 7 p.m. at a location to be determined.

Gingerbread houses must be picked up on Saturday, Dec. 1, between 6 and 7 p.m.

Registration forms are due by Monday, Nov. 26, to Judy Kuzminski, 12 Beckenwood Drive, Youngsville, or you may submit your information by phone or text at (814) 688-8514 (include your name, group, address, phone number, and whether your gingerbread house will be bigger than 14 inches by 14 inches).

Spooktacular

The Annual Spooktacular fun event will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, at Saint Francis Church, 343 East Main St., Youngsville.

This free, public event includes pumpkin carving, hot dogs, goulash dinner, face painting, treats, a spooky walk, haunting stories from the Bible, and more.

The event begins at 4:30 p.m., rain or shine.

No costumes, please, let us scare you.
