Shrove Tuesday pancake supper scheduled

– St. Luke Catholic Church, 420 North Main St. Youngsville, and the Knights of Columbus will again have their Shrove Tuesday pancake supper on Feb. 17

from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. There is no set cost, however the church will accept donations. Those attending will have their choice of two different pancake flavors with real maple syrup, sausage and beverage choice of coffee, milk or juice.

– Youngsville New Life Church is having a Valentine’s Day dinner with seatings at 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the church. The dinner is for singles, friends, couples and families, with proceeds to benefit local missions projects and the Second Street Food Pantry. The church is located at 18 Second St, Youngsville. Reserved tickets are $20 with meal choice needed by Feb. 8. Prepayment is required. For more information call 814-688-2212. Tickets are available at the church office during office hours. Menu choice includes Swiss steak or parmesan crusted chicken, salad, potato, mixed vegetables, dinner roll, beverages and a choice of ice cream or cupcake for dessert.

– St. Francis Episcopal Church, 343 East Main St., Youngsville, will host a Taize prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The quiet, contemplative gatherings offer an opportunity for prayer and reflection. For more information call Vicar Joe McGarry at 814-723-9360.

LIBRARY NEWS

– The book sale genre for February will be romance and Christian fiction.

– Any time in February the library is holding a mu swap. Swap a mug for a new one, hot chocolate packets will be provided to test out your new mug.

-Stop by on Saturday, February 14th and color a heart to decorate the library and get

a sweet treat.

– As a reminder of the library services: Public wifi access 24/7; high speed internet; power library reference and computer applications; computer printing, copier, scanner and faxing available with a fee; Book Club meets the second Tuesday of the month from 3 to 4 p.m.; Preschool story time is the second Tuesday of the month from 10:30 to 11 a.m.; WIFI Wednesday is the third Wednesday of the month from 4 to 5 p.m. Stop by for free help with electronic devices including iPhone, Androids and tablets. No appointment is needed.

-On Tuesdays, Career Link will be at the Youngsville Library from 10 a.m. to noon. Stop in for a one stop shop for career development. Career Link offers free personalized services including one on one support with resumes and applications. Career Link can also help access skills testing and other job seeker resources. This will be a weekly event on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon until further notice.

-The “Love Your Library” gift card fundraiser will start on Saturday, Feb. 14. Tickets will be available to win any

number of gift cards to many local businesses.

– A property tax/rent rebate event will be held at the Youngsville Library on Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call 814-723-3763, ext. 139 to schedule an appointment and for more information.

– Library hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, closed Fridays and open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

– To make giving easier, those who want to support the library can stop by the Youngsville branch of Northwest Savings Bank and donate directly to the library. Stop by during normal business hours and the staff will help with a donation.

MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

– Every Thursday, is “Bar-Bingo” at the American Legion (10 North Main St.). Bingo starts at 6pm, and the kitchen opens at 5 p.m. Bar-Bingo is a formal term for this weekly fundraising event and is not intended to imply that bingo participants are required to sit at or near the bar area.
