Crary Art Gallery to open exhibit August 2nd
Visions of the National Parks and Beyond opens at the Crary Art Gallery on Aug. 2 featuring artwork by six regional artists: Thomas Annear, Wendy Bale, Angela Caley, James Hoggard, Tom Janik and Thomas Paquette.
It showcases images of national parks in oil, gouache, and acrylic paintings, as well as photography, mixed media, and cut paper pieces.
Viewers can embark on a cross-country journey from the Smokey Mountains in the east to the Grant Tetons and Yellowstone National Park in the west, with plenty of stops in between.
Annear contemplates the balance of preserving wild spaces with the goal of keeping them open to the public for their benefit and enjoyment. Bale enjoys connecting with people and forming friendships through a shared love of nature and art. Caley uses her image-making process to encourage others to discover new worlds through her eyes.
Hoggard conveys his gratitude for the stillness and calm of the wilderness. Janik captures his fascination with nature’s beauty in his award-winning photographs, and Paquette’s well-travelled paintings are as layered and rich as their subjects.
An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 2 at the gallery, 511 Market St., Warren. Through Sept. 7 the exhibition is open to visitors on Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free. The gallery receives funding support from the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts from the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts. For more information, visit craryartgallery.org.
