Lunches, breakfasts to be free to district students

School lunches and breakfasts will be free to all Warren County School District students in the coming school year.

The district has elected to participate in the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) for 2022-23. All district schools are included.

“The district’s election to participate in CEP means that household income applications are no longer required to determine eligibility for free or reduced-price meals at schools,” according to a district release from Coordinator of Grant and Foundation Development Matt Jones. “Under CEP, all students enrolled in the district will receive a free breakfast and lunch through the School Nutrition Program (SNP).”

Even students who choose to pack their lunches will be able to get in on the CEP action. “Students who pack their lunches may choose to participate in the district’s new ‘Pack and Carry’ option, where they may choose fresh fruits, vegetables, and a milk at no cost to enjoy with their packed meal,” Jones said.

There are limits.

CEP does not apply to a la carte foods. Students who want an extra entree, snack, or milk, will have to pay for those.

Questions regarding CEP in the Warren County School District should be directed to the WCSD Food Service Office at (814)723-6900 at extensions 1602 or 1603.
