School district announces summer vacation food program

The Warren County School District, in collaboration with the City of Warren, has announced its summer food service program schedule.

A bag lunch will be available from 11:30 a.m. to noon daily at Lacy Park and Playground, and breakfast (7:30 to 8:30 a.m.) and lunch (11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) will be available at Beaty-Warren Middle School.

“The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides children ages 18 and younger with options for a free breakfast and/or lunch during the summer months,” according to District Coordinator of Grant and Foundation Development Matt Jones.

The two sites will start serving on Monday, June 13. Lacy will be open Monday through Friday through August 5. Beaty will serve Monday through Friday through July 29.

No lunches will be available during the week of July 4.

“Children should arrive early at Lacy Playground to help staff obtain accurate meal counts and ensure the availability of food,” Jones said. “Children must enjoy their meals onsite and clean up after themselves.”

“Menus will be posted on the district website at www.wcsdpa.org, under For Parents, Food Service-Wellness Committee,” he said. “Please be aware that dates and times may change due to the needs of the sites. The district will notify the public of changes via site signage and the WCSD Facebook page.”

“The program is funded through reimbursements from the Pennsylvania Department of Education,” Jones said.

Any organizations that offer summer programming for children and are interested in becoming SFSP partners may contact Jones at (814) 723-6900.
