R.O.A.R — the Revitalization of Russell and Akeley — is bringing back its Pine Grove Days event this Saturday.

A full day of activities is planned.

The day starts with the Run for R.O.A.R. 5K with the starting gun set to go off at 9 a.m. at the Russell United Methodist Church. “Day of” registration will take place from 8 to 8:45 a.m.

“At 10 a.m. there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new canoe and kayak launch along the Conewango Creek,” Katie Walker said. “The launch is located at Larimer Park.”

Walker said that starting at 11 a.m. there will be a vendor fair with crafts, food and lemonade among other things. The Russell Antiques & Treasures Trading Post will be holding a flea market from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“The Russell Volunteer Fire Department will also be serving up its delicious chicken BBQ,” she said. “There will be wood carving and Civil War medical demonstrations throughout the day, as well.”

A parade is set to touch off at 11 from Woodlawn Drive down North Main Street and ending at the Russell Volunteer Fire Department.

“It will feature many local organizations and is sure to be fun for all ages,” Walker said.

The Russell United Methodist Church will also host a Kids Zone from noon to 4 p.m. including a petting zoo, a magician, face painting, hula hooping, games, crafts and more.

The Misfits will perform at the church at 2 p.m. and a car cruise-in will rin from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“Classic cars are invited to join in the show,” Walker said. “Registration for the cruise-in will begin at 2 p.m. at the corners of Pine and State St. in Russell.

“The day will cap off with Dancin’ at Larimer featuring music from the Russell Roller Rink from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Larimer Park,” she said, “followed by the grand finale of the day — an amazing fireworks display provided by Ace Pyro.”
