The Butch Hulings Memorial Scholarship awarded its first ever scholarship to Maggie Swanson of Tionesta.

Maggie will be attending the Welding program at Precision Manufacturing Institute in Meadville.

COVID-19 is causing struggles for the first-year program, honoring Hulings, who passed away in 2016. But family members hope the scholarship program will continue to grow and provide more scholarships in the future.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of the fundraisers we had planned had to be canceled,” Board President Monica Morgan said. “BHMS was created to help fund the education of students who choose trade or technical schools because our dad was a tradesman, and we want to honor his memory in the best way possible.”

The scholarship is open to seniors graduating from Tidioute Community Charter School.
