Eldercare Senior Expo returns Oct. 27

The Warren-Forest Eldercare Council invites you to attend this year’s 2017 Senior Expo on Friday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This annual event will again be held at the Transit Authority of Warren County, located at 42 Clark Street, which is also the home of the Allegheny Community Center. The venue provides space for enjoying lunch along the Allegheny River as well as learning about the other amenities that TAWC and the Allegheny Community Center have to offer. Plenty of parking will be provided along Clark Street and in the parking garage. A TAWC shuttle bus will be running from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from the garage to the Expo.

Additionally, transportation to the Expo is available by calling TAWC at 723-1874. Expo attendees are cautioned not to park in the TOPS plaza parking lot unless they are going to be shopping in the plaza that day. The parking lot owner is not allowing anyone other than plaza employees or shoppers to park there.

The Expo will provide information and referral assistance to residents from a wide array of vendors. Warren General Hospital and the Eldercare Council will be providing free blood screenings this year to the first 200 individuals. You can pre-register by calling Jenny Rohlin at WGH, at 723-3300, extension 1879, or email: bjenny@wgh.org. Other services available are flu shots, blood pressure screenings, and Medicare D comparisons.

A full lunch will be provided in the ACC dining room from 10 a.m. to noon, with your choice of a hot dog or sloppy joe, chips, cookies and coffee compliments of Tops grocery store.

Susan Himes, Eldercare Council Chair said, “The Eldercare Senior Expo is an excellent resource for residents of our community to talk to the professionals working with senior issues, imparting information and health screenings for them to ‘live and age well’. We typically have 70 or more vendors participating, so there’s sure to be some new information offered to help people. We are holding a Volunteer Fair again this year because it was popular last year. Vendors will have a ‘Volunteers Needed’ sign at their table if they are recruiting volunteers. This is a perfect way to talk face-to-face with agency staff about a volunteer position that they may have been considering.”

Sherrie Flannery, from the Primary Health Network added, “The Senior Expo is the largest senior fair in our area and offers the opportunity for people to come together and see all the great programs and services located in our community. It’s a well-planned educational and fun expo with lots of people, great information, giveaways and food!”

The Expo is a valuable service to the older and/or disabled residents of the area. It attracts several hundred people and offers the opportunity to learn about services, activities, and information that they may need or in which they may be interested. The Senior Expo has proved to be a productive resource for the elderly and disabled members of our community. This event gives them the opportunity to come out and interact with the people and agencies that are here to meet their needs.

Lisa To, Executive Director of Hospice of Warren County, said, “The Senior Expo is a huge social and educational event for seniors. It’s also a great opportunity for vendor education and networking.”

Major sponsors for this year’s Senior Expo are the Warren-Forest Eldercare Council, LINK, and TOPS Friendly Markets.
