Y news reporters

The Warren YMCA is again in the news, but this time reporting the Y news on Facebook. Shown here raising the contribution marker to over $ 650,000 are Y News reporters, from left, Alyssa Farr, age 10, and Madelyn Jones, 10. Both Farr and Jones are doing weekly broadcasts on the YMCA Facebook page. “This is a great way to educate not only our adults but the kids that live in our community,” said Kim Slocum, marketing and grant coordinator of the Y. “We really try to engage kids in our daily activities at the Y. Farr and Jones will be doing a weekly Facebook broadcast about news at the Y. They will be interviewing people and discovering news items and choose what they will report about. When they first started and walked around the Y, asking staff what they thought was newsworthy, they came back with a ton of information. Listening to them tell me with the excitement in their voices was a really nice. We talked about what they learned and what should be featured. This week’s news about the YMCA Capital Campaign was the hot topic as the marker was painted up into a new number field. Their news report will be posted to the “Warren County YMCA – PA” Facebook page, and anyone who clicks like on the page can view the Y news weekly.
