WAEC leads charge (vote) to bring children’s author here

Photo submitted to Times Observer Jan Brett could be coming to a school near us.

Jan Brett will go anywhere in the world to visit the winner of her ninth annual contest, said Rhalee Hughes of Rhalee Hughes Public Relations and Marketing.

The contest, being held online, lets people from around the world vote for what school or library they’d like to see Jan Brett visit. The children’s author and illustrator said she knew she wanted to be an artist by the age of six.

Brett was an artist for greeting cards before entering the world of children’s books. Her favorite books as a child included The Tale of Peter Rabbit and anything by Beatrix Potter. Today, Brett is well known for books like The Mitten, The Hat, and Gingerbread Baby.

The school or library with the most parents, teachers, friends, or supporters who enter will win a free school or library visit during the 2017-2018 school year.

And Warren Area Elementary Center is in the lead, as of January 30, with 1,010 votes.

One email address entry per person is allowed, and duplicate email addresses will be removed. Those under 13 are asked to use parent’s email addresses.
