The celebration of 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment to our Constitution allowing Women’s Right to Vote continues with a variety of celebrations.

Currently, there are three businesses showcasing the Women’s Right to Vote, including Crone’s Drug Store, Stone Consulting, and Warren Antiques and Giftware. The store window displays were coordinated by Barbara Scott and Jane Dunshie, members of the Suffrage Celebration Group in Warren County.

The free theatre show featuring Susan B. Anthony with professional rein actor Christina Rausa of the Fredonia, N.Y., area was held Sept. 10 at Struthers Library Theatre. The show was sponsored by Zonta Club of Warren through a community grant, and coordinated by Warren County Historical Society.

Other planned events include “Equality Rights – the First Convention” at the Conewango Club on Oct 19. Yesterday Productions will present the drama, plus there will be an afternoon tea and other entertainment. It depicts the beginning of a 72-year struggle for gaining woman’s right to vote. Tickets are available from the Historical Society.

On Nov. 2, a Historical Roadside Marker for Cynthia Catlin Miller in Sugar Grove will be celebrated. Cynthia was an abolitionist and fought for women’s right to vote. More details are available from Laura Bauer.

Pictorial gift cards of the suffrage marches have been created by Jane Dunshie and for sale at events and the Warren County Historical Society.

Other public events planned for the fall and 2020 are geocaching spots of the suffrage movement in Warren County, a Crary Gallery artist show, plus speakers from the Suffrage Centennial group. The D.A.R. will offer a special scholarship in 2020, and the library will host author Penny Coleman, past local resident with her new book on the suffrage movement.

A goal of collecting 100 names and stories of notable past and current Warren County women is being done at the Historical Society by intern Greg Cross, and Jennifer Bliss, a member of the suffrage group.

Senior center members, nursing home residents, etc., can share their early relative’s stories of our nation’s history with event themes, and gather stories from their members. Organizations are encouraged to research their history in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s to learn how their members were involved in this historic Constitution amendment and share during their own programs, media stories, library files, etc.

The next Suffrage Celebration group meeting will be Oct. 8 at the Slater room of the Warren Public Library.
