Board discusses academic eligibility

During a discussion of situational Sunday practices, a board member asked about academic eligibility. At Monday night’s school board meeting, board member Jeff Labesky recommended that Warren County School District stop allowing students who are failing a class to participate in co-curricular activities, including athletics. The district’s current policy points to PIAA regulations. ERIE, Pa. – The Warren Dragon swimmers got back on the winning track Monday, sweeping the Erie High Royals, 92-72 on the girls side and 108-61 on the boys side. “Everybody contributed,” said Warren coach Russ Beyer. “We’ve been swimming in a lot meter pools, and they have a little smaller pool, so I think mentally it makes you feel like you’re going faster. Villa Maria hands Warren girls first loss

ERIE, Pa. – Villa Maria rudely ended the Warren Lady Dragons’ 11-game win streak to start the season, 55-20 on Monday. The game was an anomaly in many ways for Warren, but perhaps no stat was more telling then the Victors (9-2 overall, 3-0 Region 6) holding Lady Dragon star senior Margo Loutzenhiser without a point. Chase Husted poured in 26 points to lead visiting DuBois to a 62-48 win over Warren Saturday. Husted scored 14 of his points in the second half as the Beavers turned a 5-point halftime lead into a 14-point victory. “This was a good opportunity for us stepping out of region play,” Warren coach Jeff Berdine said. “Husted played solid against us.
