Harry Spackman

S. Harry Spackman, 87, of Starbrick, died Sunday, October 9, 2016, at his home. Harry was born September 21, 1929 in Johnstown, PA. He was the son of the late Chester P. Spackman and Mary Oaks Spackman Buterbaugh.

Harry was an apprentice mortician at the former Templeton’s Funeral Home in Warren until developing polio. He then attended Clarion State University and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. He taught at Beaty Middle School and Warren High School for a few years until taking a sabbatical to earn his Master’s Degree in Fisheries Biology at Penn State University. Ultimately, Harry retired from Loranger Manufacturing as a purchasing director. Harry volunteered many seasons with the Forestry Service conducting test studies on the regional fisheries habitats.

He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons #241 Northstar Lodge, Warren, PA. He was also a member of the Coudersport Consistory, and member of the Shrine Erie Club. He enjoyed fishing, and spent his winters tying flies; he also enjoyed hunting and four wheeling where he could observe the outdoors. He also was passionate about genealogy.

He is survived by two children, Harry G. Spackman, and Sherry Perry, and husband, Richard, both of Starbrick; six grandchildren, Kara Winters, Justin Freeborough, Linde Spackman, Christi Spackman, Kimberly Campbell and Richard Perry, Jr.; 7 greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on June 6, 2004, by his wife, Margaret Sterrett Spackman, whom he married October 2, 1948.

A Masonic service will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penn. Ave. E., Warren. Immediately following the Masonic service, friends will be received at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral will be held there on Friday, October 14, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Erica Wellner, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 185 Hospital Drive, Warren, PA 16365, or Paws Along The River, 212 Elm Street, Warren, PA 16365.
