DA: Officer-involved shooting ‘justified’

Warren County District Attorney Rob Greene has determined that an officer involved shooting that occurred last month in Freehold Township was “justified.”

Greene said in a statement Tuesday morning that the incident occurred in the midst of a “high-risk” search warrant” stemming from a months-long investigation into the sale of methamphetamine.

The suspect, who Greene did not identify, was “considered armed and dangerous.

“Upon making entry to a garage located at the residence, the suspect was holding a firearm and refused to drop the gun after commands to ‘drop the gun,’ “ Greene explained. “The suspect then made a sudden movement with the gun in his hand.”

That’s when a member of the Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team fired one round, killing the suspect.

Greene said the shooting was justified in the wake of reviewing video, witness statements and the incident report.

“This is an unfortunate situation which put law enforcement in an unavoidable situation to use deadly force,” Greene concluded.
