Donation boxes seek supplies for schools

Even though schools opened Tuesday, the Warren County Democratic Committee is celebrating and supporting the increase in state education funding during Gov. Josh Shapiro's term by collecting school supplies for Warren County School District.
Donation boxes are located at three local businesses: Allegheny Outfitters, Bent Run, and Shurfine Grocery Store. The Dems Program Sub-Committee is focusing on local education support by collecting needed school supplies for students and teachers as determined by the Warren County School District.
Items such as pens, markers, staplers, scissors for children, bulletin board display materials, rulers, and colored pencils, are needed. Democratic Committee members will collect the donated items from the boxes and deliver them to Dr. Patricia Hawley-Mead, Warren County School District's Director of Pupil Services, which includes the Kids in Need (KIN) program.
Governor Shapiro stated in his July 14 press release, "Even with a divided legislature, we've proven time and again that Democrats and Republicans can come together to get stuff done for the good people of Pennsylvania." Shapiro also said, "I believe creating opportunity starts in our classrooms and from day one, my administration has been focused on delivering real resources for students, parents, and teachers. Together, we've increased funding for Pennsylvania schools by 35 percent since I took office, leading to higher test scores, rising graduation rates, improved attendance, expanded access to vo-tech and CTE, more teachers in our classrooms. These investments are making a real difference and we're going to keep building on it to ensure every Pennsylvania student has the opportunity to succeed."
State education funding supports basic education, special education, school infrastructure, student mental health, free breakfasts, the new student teacher stipend program, and more. Local drives, such as the Warren County Democratic Committee's School Supply Drive, address the specific needs of our local children and teachers. The Dems Committee joins many other local organizations in a bi-partisan, community wide mission to continue improvements in our local schools by both filling in the gaps for needed supplies and enhancing the learning environment. Simply by funding all of the teachers' supply wish lists, the effort will have a positive impact.
Increased state funding is essential as is local attention to the specific needs of our community. Once again, as September rolls around, look for the Dems Committee donation boxes and the many other community organizations supporting this back-to-school season. As the state's elected leadership stepped up to support education,The state is doing its part for education. Warren County residents now have specific opportunities to support our children and teachers.
