Hill and Dale Garden club dedicates weeping cherry tree at Ike

Not all presidents cut down cherry trees.

In celebration of Arbor Day, the Hill and Dale Garden Club planted a weeping cherry tree at Eisenhower High School.

The tree was planted outside of the bus loop at the high school.

The tree is not expected to grow much beyond 15 feet in height and 20 in spread, and it will feature white or pink blossoms each spring on the branches that extend down toward the ground.

It was donated by Nick and Mary Brunecz of J&B Greenhouse, who have ties to the high school, according to club members.

Club members Donna Chapman, Historian Linda Feather, Secretary Muriel Redick, Debbie Woodin, Barb Alexander, President Ruthann DeVore, Peg Stino, Eleanor Johnson, Willa Rupczyk, and Annie Clement, were joined by Eisenhower High School Principal Ericka Alm and Warren County School District board member Marcy Morgan at the ceremony.

“Arbor Day is a unique holiday because it focuses on the future, not the past,” DeVore said. “Trees provide the very necessities of life itself. They clean our air, protect drinking water, create healthy communities, and feed the human soul.”

“Today, we are dedicating a weeping cherry tree,” she said. “The time for planting is now.”
