Frank Atkin

Frank H. Atkin, age 80, of Tidioute, PA passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at the Titusville Area Hospital in Titusville, PA. He was born on March 12, 1938 in Sandusky, Ohio, son of the late Francis George Kraus and Frances “Ecky” (Eckert) Kraus Atkin and stepson of William J. Atkin. He moved to Tidioute in 1948 and attended Hunter Memorial School (now Tidioute Community Charter School). He left school to join the Army in 1956. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1963. After returning from the military, he was a milkman for Titusville Dairy, and later an inspector for PennDOT during the building of the Kinzua Dam. He worked for many years for Klapec Trucking of Oil City and then Heenan Trucking of Tidioute until he retired. Frank was a member of the VFW Post 334 in Tidioute and was Catholic by faith.

He is survived by a daughter, Misty Clark and her husband, Mike, of Wyoming, and a son Frank Atkin of Florida. Grandchildren Tyler and Hayden Clark of Wyoming and Jacob Atkin of Florida. A sister, Janet Marquis and her husband, Allen, of Lander, PA. A brotherinlaw, James R. Martin of Tidioute. Many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews from Tidioute, Tionesta, Warren, Edinboro, and Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania and in Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Karen F. Atkin and Lela “Zebbie” Martin.

Friends will be received at the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 1011 A.M. A military burial ceremony will follow at the Swedish Union Cemetery in Tidioute. Full military rites will be accorded by the VFW Post 5958 Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity. A special thanks to the people at Tidioute Towers who looked after Frank during his failing health, also his nephew Jason Martin who Frank entrusted with his last wishes.
