TITUSVILLE -- Four Warren runners kept their seasons alive as the Dragons competed in the District 10 2A Championships on Saturday at the Ed Myer Complex.
State championship veterans Emma Peterson and Cole Fitzgerald, as well as freshman star Nina Woldt, and first-time qualifier Grayson Collopy all had season bests, allowing them to qualify for the state meet this coming Saturday at Big Springs High School in Newville.
"It was a beautiful day and perfect racing weather," said head coach Michelle Johnson. "Every competitor ran a season personal best. Coach (Troy) Shattuck and I are very proud of the efforts and hard work these kids have put in."
The top two 2A teams advance to the PIAA Championships, as well as the top 10 individual runners not part of the team portion.
Cathedral Prep won the girls 2A event, with Grove City finishing as runners-up. Peterson (19:50) finished in 13th place overall, but was the sixth individual runner when taking out the Cathedral Prep and Grove City runners. Woldt (19:50) was also safe as she finished 15th overall, but was eighth in the remaining top 10.
Harbor Creek won the boys 2A team title, with General McLane claiming second place. Fitzgerald (16:33) finished in 10th place, automatically punching his PIAA ticket. Collopy (16:41) was just one second from not continuing his junior season. Collopy's time put him as the 10th individual finisher (13th overall) as he edged out Girard's Travis Bach. Also running for the Dragons were Leyton Salvatore (30th), Chase Fetzeck (67th), Channing Nuhfer 68th, Mason Smith 70th and Levi Peterson 77th. As a team, Warren earned a sixth-place finish out of 18 total teams.
