MAPLEWOOD -- Warren girls volleyball gained some serious confidence over the weekend as they won the 12-team varsity Maplewood Tournament on Saturday.

In the morning “Black Pool” the Dragons defeated Cambridge Springs 25-16, 25-16, Neshannock 25-17, 25-22, General McLane 25-7, 25-14, and Cochranton 25-18, 25-16.

Warren split with Maplewood 24-26, 25-22 to finish with a 9-1 record and earn a top seed and first round bye in the playoffs. In the quarterfinals, the Dragons faced off against Cambridge Springs (who had defeated Meadville) again and came away a 25-15 winner.

They then defeated Cochranton 25-14 in the semifinals, and Corry 25-23 in the finals to win the tournament championship. Corry defeated Warren earlier in the season in the Fort LeBoeuf Tournament, as well as a matchup a few weeks ago.

The Dragons are back in action for their final regular season and Region 4 league game on Tuesday at McDowell.
