HICKORY -- Warren boys soccer picked up a huge win Saturday as they traveled to the southern portion of District 10 to take on Hickory. An impressive defensive showing enabled the Dragons to make the most use and capitalize on the offensive end as they defeated the Hornets 3-0.
Warren goals were scored by Grant Newton, Trey Carrington, and Gabe Dougherty. Assists were by Mason Warner, Dougherty, and Carrington.
"We want our identity to be built around defense," Warren head coach Steffen Blair commented. "And that's a challenge the boys have accepted over the last few weeks, especially. This is a group playing with a lot of confidence right now."
This win was the Dragon's 7th in a row, and their 10th total win out of the last 12 games. The quality win shows they can compete with anybody in the District, as the Hornets recently tied Harbor Creek 0-0, and the Dragons fell 4-0 to the Huskies back in late September. With the District 10 playoffs on the rise, Warren could be poised to make an impact in the postseason.
