MEADVILLE -- The Warren boys soccer team earned a huge victory Monday evening as they picked up a 3-0 road win against Meadville.
With the win against the Bulldogs on their Senior Night, the Dragons are just one win away on Wednesday versus Franklin for at least a share of the Region 5 title.
Warren broke through in the first half as Gabe Dougherty found Adam Yeager for the initial goal of the game. The Dragons would hold firm on defense to maintain the one goal lead heading into the half.
The second half was all Warren as Dougherty and Grant Newton each notched goals, solidifying the win. Newton assisted Dougherty, and Dougherty assisted Newton. Eddie Abplanalp recorded a nice shutout in the win.
Head coach Steffen Blair was impressed with his squad.
"We needed to prove that we could grit out one of these games and keep a talented team off the scoreboard, and that's exactly what we did," he said. "Reilly (Morgan), Timmy (Giger) and Bryce (Grolemund) were fantastic all night. We gave a lot of responsibility to Logan (Ristau) and Ashton (Carrington) in the middle of the field, and they came up huge for us. It was a great team performance."
Warren hosts Franklin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday for Senior Night at War Memorial Field.
