Elms’ hat trick sparks Ike girls to win

GUYS MILLS -- Josie Elms had a hat trick to lead the Eisenhower girls soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Maplewood in a non-region game Thursday.

Elms connected for the first goal just four minutes in when she took a pass from Hannah Lund and found the back of the net. One minute later, Rose Rondeau scored on a pass from Kiera Cressley to put the Knights up 2-0. Eisenhower would get another goal from Elms and Rondeau in the first half to go up 4-0 at the break.

Elms tallied her third goal just two minutes into the second half on an assist from Amelia Smyth to increase Eisenhower's lead to 5-0.

With the lead, Knights head coach Ashley Elms took the opportunity to work some younger players in and move players around, and it paid off.

"I moved Camdyn Black to the wing and she got her first career assist, Sophia Scott got some time in goal in the second half and did well," Coach Elms said. "We got great games defensively from Grace Martin and Amelia Smyth today. Both did an excellent job being aggressive and shutting down the middle of the field."

Now 9-3, the Knights are off until next week when they have region games scheduled against Girard and Seneca.
