CORRY -- The Warren boys golf team was on the road Thursday as the Dragons competed in the annual Corry Beavers High School Golf Invitational at North Hills Golf Course.
The Dragons had to trudge through the wet and muddy course as Corry received 3 inches of rain overnight.
"Overall I felt we played well considering the conditions," said head coach Nate Sandberg.
Warren brought two teams to compete in the event -- Warren Blue and Warren White.
"We are grateful Corry allows us to bring two teams," Sandberg said. "Except for our home match, this is the closest event we have all season, so it is ideal for giving more kids an opportunity to play."
Warren Blue was led by Presley Weldon, who fired a nice score of 80, followed by an 81 from Xander Russell. A pair of 83s were shot by Hayden Hendricks and Gavin Haibach. Michael Palmieri rounded out the scoring with an 87.
Warren White's low scorer was freshman Jensen Elletson, who shot an 89 in his very first competitive golf event. Aaron Shene carded a 96 on his birthday, and Jack Hilbert ended with a 98 in his first-career competition. Also representing Warren White was Isaac Neal at 98 and Carson Britt with a 114.
The Dragons return to action Thursday when they head to Elk Valley Golf Course to compete in their penultimate Region 6 mega match of the season, hosted by the McDowell Trojans.
