ERIE -- The Warren High and Beaty-Warren Middle School student-athletes spent their Labor Day weekend competing in the 52nd annual McDowell Invitational held at Brown's Farm. The Dragons took advantage of the nice weather and turned in some nice performances, highlighted by a top-10 individual finish by junior Leyton Salvatore. Head coach Midhelle Johnson commented, "It was a beautiful day in Erie for a cross-country invite. Leyton's time of 17:17 came on his 17th birthday."

In the high school girls division, senior Emma Peterson was the top Dragon, earning an 18th place finish with a time of 22:16.0. Also competing were newcomers Grace Wilkins (27:13.0) and Lani Wenzel (29:14.4) who finished in 49th and 54th place, respectively.

Salvatore (17:17.4) paced the Warren High boys, finishing in 10th place overall out of 68 total runners. Other finishers for the Dragons included Cole Fitzgerald (18:01.4, 20th), Grayson Collopy (18:03.8, 22nd), Levi Peterson (19:19.7, 39th), Chase Fetzeck (19:37.5, 43rd), Channing Nuhfer (19:58.6, 45th), and Mason Smith (20:53.9, 52nd). Freshman Liam Baldensperger finished 56th overall in the Boys junior varsity event with a time of 25:11.3.

Beaty had two girls compete in the middle school division. 7th graders Claire Peterson (15:45.8, 24th) and Grace Peterson (16:54.7, 29th) ran nice races for the Dragons and competed hard. In the boys middle school division, Curtis McGraw ran a blazing pace of 11:41.9, good for a 6th place individual finish out of 38 total runners. In 17th place was Jackson Warner, running a 12:51.5. Johnson added, "A big surprise of the day was Curtis McGraw, a 7th grader, as well as sophomore Channing Nuhfer who ran under 20 minutes in his XC debut. These teams are showing a lot of promise and I can't wait to see what this season holds."

The Dragons have the entire week off to prepare for their next meet which is home at Betts Park next Tuesday.
